How We Support Our Young People

Education & Employment Activities

  • Each young person will be supported to access apprenticeships, employment, education or training.
  • We will also support young people to complete application forms, guidance to complete CV’s, interview skills, telephone skills, support with college courses or finding appropriate training.
  • We are looking to encourage and support young people to experience outdoor recreational activities and clubs for example nature walks museum (sports/music/creative arts).
  • We also offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Counselling, Art and Music through regulated and recommended third party providers with expertise and experience of working with young people (additional cost for service only – no admin fee – would apply).

Accommodation & One to One Support Sessions

  • We will provide good standard of accommodation with dedicated support workers who are friendly. A basic starter pack will be provided for all young people. A daily living allowance will be provided by the social worker or Brightsky Youth Services if it has been arranged with the placement.
  • All our accommodation will have staff on side 24/7 365 days a year. For young people living in a single flat in the community an outreach worker will be visiting every week for an agreed number of hours.
  • All our support workers will offer advice and support for any issues/problems/queries young people may encounter during their stay at Brightsky Youth Services.
  • The support sessions are opportunities for young people to seek advice, discuss, complain or simply talk through your feelings.

Health

  • Each young person placed with us will be Registered with the local GP, dentist and optician.
  • Our Welcome guide will provide information about the location of the nearest hospital, NHS walk-in health centre, sexual health clinic, and substance misuse service.
  • Accessing specialist counselling services, professional help and/or other agencies.
  • Arranging and attending appointments.
  • We will support young people struggling with emotional difficulties (stress/anxiety) (informal counselling).
  • We do not administrate medicine however we offer to Monitor and supervise the use of prescribed medication through prompting.
  • Arranging prescriptions and medication collection from the pharmacy.

Help Managing Young People’s Personal Allowances & Independence

  • Assistance with budgeting for food, bills, clothing, recreation etc.
  • Assistance with welfare benefits, forms, and bills.
  • All young people will be encouraged/supported to open a bank account if they do not already have one.
  • Assistance with preparing shopping lists, shopping and preparing meals.
    Understanding the importance of nutrition and hygiene.
  • Help with cleaning a home/room, making a bed, laundry, ironing etc.
  • Prompting and guidance with daily personal hygiene routines.
  • How to keep safe in the kitchen, support if needed to operate & maintain kitchen equipment such as washing machine, dishwasher, oven and hob.
    Advise on fire safety, food hygiene and storage.
  • Support developing life skills and confidence.

Working Collaboratively with Other Agencies for the Wellbeing of Young People

  • We will be liaising and working in partnership with professionals/agencies to ensure the young placed with us are safeguarded and have access to Services available to them. Other agencies include the Police, Health and Social Services looked after teams.
  • We also assist with religious and cultural needs.
  • We will be organising regular social events and outings.
  • A monthly report will be submitted to Social Workers informing them about the progress young people are making.
